Consultative Services

Consultations on your pesticide usage are available from the Education Specialists at the Pesticides Branch. Please be assured that Education Specialists are NOT Inspectors. You will never be assessed fines or penalties for anything seen or heard during a consultative visit. Nor will Inspectors be notified of any suspected violations, misapplications, or compliance issues.

Types of consultations include but are not limited to:

Worker Protection Standard (WPS) Compliance Consultation

  • Do you have the required posters and signs?
  • Are you compliant with recordkeeping laws?
  • Do you have decontamination and safety procedures in place?

Application Best Practices Consultation

  • Are you mixing, loading, and applying properly?
  • Is your equipment properly calibrated?
  • Are you following all the restrictions and requirements in your labels?

Pesticide Storage and Disposal Consultation

  • Are you following best practices for pesticide storage?
  • Are you discarding rinsate and empty bottles properly?
  • Are there any signs or special equipment that you need for your storage unit?

Consultative services may incur a fee of up to $50/hr. But that fee is typically waived for small businesses, local producers, state agencies, and non-profit organizations. Please contact your island’s education specialist to schedule a consultation and see if you qualify for a fee waiver.

Training and Educational Services

Our Education Specialists can also assist you with training and education for you and your staff. We offer annual WPS training in multiple languages including but not limited to: Chinese, Korean, Thai, Ilokano, and Tagalog. Contact your island’s education specialist to schedule a WPS training.

We also offer in-person training in pesticide safety and application best practices beyond what is covered in the annual WPS training. Please contact Maxwell Bendes at (808) 295-0785 or [email protected] to see what training opportunities are available on your island.
